Thanks a lot. When the chap had the new memories inserted he switched the
computer on without the video card to check if the memories will
work. Then he put the same old card back and W98 found that it had a new
hardware, looking for it it could not find it. The store technician than
must have installed a wrong driver since the display was very poor and
nothing worked well in W89. I took the machine and went home since I am
not too concerened about Windows. Then I found that startx was shut. The
next day I brought the machine back. The helper then downloaded from the
internet the driver for my card Diamond Stealth 2500 which is the 
same since I have this computer installed it and W98
was working, however, not Linux.

Well at least I learned a few more things about Linux. Is there no end?
