OK, I'll see if I can help here.
Red Hat 6.0 does not play nice with SiS video cards, and probably
will not detect it by default. The problem is not with your monitor,
but with your video card.
An update to Red Hat 6.2 or Mandrake 7.02 will probably solve
your problem, or a replacement of the video card with a Cirrus
Logic 5464 (that cards works fine) or another video card, but that's
not an option, probably. If you want to continue using Red Hat 6.0,
you could try using VERY low, generic settings for your video card
(640 x 480 x8bpp, for example). Keep trying the probing of your
video card (manual) , and see if that works to get X up and running.
There is probably an updated SVGA display driver for X that will
work with the SiS card, but you're a newbie, so I'll recommend the
simple stuff first.
Hope this helps.
