Hi,
I Have a number of questions, I hope some one can answer them.
1). I am going to connect a windowz machine with my linux machine.
i). I want to share the same internet connection with both machines.
ii). I want to share the same printer with both the machines.
Taking up (i).
I heard I can do that in two ways , either connect windowz machine with
internet or linux machine. If I connect the windows one then all I have to
do is setup a proxy like wingate and linux can access that. If I connect the
linux machine with internet then I will have to run Squid or ipmasq. I want
to know if I connect linux machine, then what should I use? Squid or ipmasq,
for any of them, is there any HOWTO or what documentation should i read?
Taking up (ii)
for printer sharing I guess I have to use samba? nothing else? any bright
opinions:)
2). Previously I asked a question about permissions for a user(I wanted to
setup some shell accounts and give them webspace). I was told that the least
permissions for a user's HOME should be 700 so that he can access his home.
For web access (public_html or www or anything like that) I have to set the
rights to that specific folder to be readable and executeable by everyone
i.e. 755 (please correct me if im wrong). Shouldnt that be enough? do I also
have to set the rights of the user's root (/home/USER) to be readable and
executeable for all others too 755?
Thank you,
Nauman
