Dear friends
I have a PowerEdge 2900 with two Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5410 @
2.33GHz, 16384 MB RAM, eight disks (RAID 5), two logical disks (one is
300G for system, other is 6T, storing a bunch of images). Disks are
controlled by a PERC 6/i controller.
The disk policy is "No read ahead, write back", as reported by OMSA.
The server is running CentOS 5.2.
The problem we have is that, when moving large folders, even inside
the same ext3 partition, the system slows down and absolutely no disk
read can be done until the copy or the move finishes ("top" shows normal
use of CPU and memory).
I've noted that, in spite of the PERC reports that the disk policy is
"write back", dmesg shows the policy as "write through w/ FUA".
Does anybody have a hint on what is going on?
