Hey, with the machine in this state I don't think you need to be too fine grained ;) Yep, I'd been keeping an eye on it with dstat, but hadn't realised there were NFS goodies too. I'm more interested to track down the cause of the massive latency that makes the system unusable rather than optimising for better performance at the minute. noatime was tested for kicks and giggles but made no noticeable difference.
