Thanks Jens
I'll get myself acquainted with the SMcli command :) From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: 20 January 2010 10:42 To: Nick Lunt Subject: RE: Adding MD1000 to existing MD3000 To be honest, I can't say for sure. If you're lucky all will go well. Usually you should clean the drives before moving. Do the drives from the other MDs represent complete RAID groups? Or just parts of it? The 1st case will increase your chances. If a wipe beforehand isn't possible, here is what I would do: 1. Install all drives in MD1000 2. Power off both systems 3. Connect MD1000 to MD3000 and power on 4. If HDDs are imported automatically just delete RAID groups + volumes on it via MDSM 5. If not, you will have to initialize every single HDD manually using SMcli command One more thing to let you know. If you install HDDs in a running MD3000(i) enclosure (or an attached MD1000) too quickly you might experience a corrupt DACstore in rare cases. So if you ever install drives in a running system, do them one by one with plenty of time in between. Good luck, Jens. I am going to add an MD1000 to it. The only thing I'm uncertain about is the disks in the MD1000 are taken from several now unused MD1000's that were originally attached to an MD3000i, but the disks have not had the RAID config wiped. Will the MD3000 be able to see the 'used' disks in the newly attached MD1000 successfully and be OK with creating virtual disks out of them ?
