Dell support told me they've had problems with RHEL5.3 and Centos5.3 and
above with firmware updates.

The recommendation was to just run the updates via the lifecycle
controller.  Hit F10 (I think) on system startup...it'll go into a
utility boot.  Feed it a static or DHCP IP address; then have it go find
any firmware updates for the system.

It will go download all the updates it needs; and apply them rebooting
multiple times along the way.

Its frankly slower than doing it the linux .BIN route; taking a while to
download; etc...

But it will check all your firmware (a few of my machines got power
supply firmware updates).

Make sure to give it at least an hour of downtime if you go this route.
Between the downloading and all the reboots; it takes a while.
