Actually, AFAIK, OEL5 remains at kernel 2.6.18 even in update 5.

However, if you choose to use the new Oracle Unbreakable Kernel - a separate 
channel in ULN - you will get a much newer kernel based on 2.6.32 with specific 
changes related to infiniband, SSD storage and more efficient "RPC" calls 
(SPD?).

Everything is still supposed to run as-is and binary compat with RedHat remains.
