i have a MD1000 with *single* EMM module and dual PSU. The EMM is on firmware version A04 and part number 0HN240A00. it is installed in left slot (looking from the back). it has 15x 500GB drives. it is connected to a PERC 5/E that is in a PowerEdge 2900-III server. the unit is setup in unified mode. in this configuration, everything works perfectly and i have a RAID5 volume over 15 drives that I can mount in Redhat Linux; no problems.
i wanted to upgrade the MD1000 to *dual* EMM configuration and so i recently acquired another EMM module refurbished. This new EMM also runs firmware A04 and part number 0JT517 (rev A01). without ANY changes to the above configuration, I swapped the current EMM module with the new EMM module. when I power on the unit with new EMM installed, the enclosure status LED is briefly amber, but eventually turns blue. i then boot the server, but the PERC 5/E can only detect drives 07-14 and drives 00-06 show up as missing. at this point, the LED for drive 07-14 are green, the LED for drives 00-06 are completely OFF. i continue to boot the server running Redhat 5.3. after the server is running, i use the omreport tool: # omreport storage enclosure This causes the LEDs for drives 00-06 to all turn amber (previously OFF/no light during boot up), and the chassis status LED also turns amber. When I shut down the server, shutdown the MD1000, and re-install the old EMM, everything works perfect; just like before. My questions are: 1. does this mean the new EMM i acquired is defective? 2. is the EMM stuck in "split" mode? if so, is there a procedure to "reset" it so that it recognizes that it needs to be in unified mode? 3. the specific part numbers are different, but both units look exactly the same and have labels AMP01-SIM, and both say "EMM supports SAS and SATA hard drives" on the back. both have the same A04 firmware. is this a compatibility issue? (although, I have *NOT* run BOTH EMM (old+new) in the MD1000 yet, i wanted to verify the new EMM is fully functional first) Thanks for any assistance. -Bond _______________________________________________ Linux-PowerEdge mailing list [email protected] https://lists.us.dell.com/mailman/listinfo/linux-poweredge Please read the FAQ at http://lists.us.dell.com/faq
