I have an answer to the problem first from LSI, which basically confirmed that
there is a conflict on one of the channels using this card. Second from Patrick
Fischer at Dell who advised:
"we only sell the 39160(pci-x), 39320 (pci-e) and one lsi scsi adapter.
Please use a perc 4 e/DC (pci-e), or Perc 4 DC for best performance with
the PV220S because it has a cache dimm on it and supports HW raid."
I have now ordered a Perc 4e/DC card and it should be problem over. I will try
and pair the disks on either side of the bus on the PV220S to RAID 1 and then
with the Oracle ASM disks set the redundancy to external, which will work.
(There will be 14 disks by this time)
My original drive was to try and have the Oracle ASM instance take care of the
whole stack of looking after the disks, redundancy, failure, etc, etc.
Next disk array I will buy I am going to try and see if I can get a more
hardware direct attachment, which I think you can with the more expensive
arrays.
