If you use X-Windows, you might want to try Xisp, which takes care of this
for you.  Each ISP entry can have its own configuration.  I especially
like being able to define multiple phone numbers for my work dial-in, as
we don't have the lines in a hunt group.

Xisp is available from Sunsite and mirrors.  It's also available as an
