recompile the kernel. If you have sources, cd to the dir, make config (say
yes to CONFIG_PPP!) and make the kernel image (install it as z or bzlilo).
reboot and enjoy.

(This was a very simplified message, I'm dead out of time. Kernel-howto's
there for what?)
