Sorry, PPP is not available

I have Linux Kernel 2.0.35 and pppd 2.2.0
When I compile the kernel, I included options PPP, when the system boot show
messages that indates load PPP too, but when I intented run pppd, I receive
the follow message:

"Sorry, PPP is not available in your system".
