I've just joined the list, so if necessary tell me where to look for the
answer (I'm not sure where the list archives are kept).

I'm seeing the following messages from ppp 2.3.5 in the logs:

I'd like to know if anyone knows what this protocol is and if lack of
support by the linux ppp could be the reason I'm having problems
connecting to my provider?

[offtopic background:

In Spain, Telefonica provides a service called `Infovia' which through a
local telephone number allows access to all ISPs using a pap
identification user="user@provider" instead of "user". The provider part
is used to pass on the authentication requests to the appropriate ISP, and
once identified the client is provided with the local and remote ip
addresses as normal. I've been using linux with ISDN for over a year with
this system with no problems.

Telefonica have upgraded their network to a new service called
Infoviaplus, which is supposed to be identical to Infovia. When
connecting to the new service I get the messages above (which weren't
present when connecting to Infovia) and although I can connect to the
service over a modem, I'm having trouble doing the same over ISDN,
apparently due messages of the form:

Jan 8 11:02:43 mail pppd[6434]: LCP: timeout sending Config-Requests

Telefonica don't "support" linux, of course :-(, but neither do they
provide technical information as to the correct configuration required to
connect through their systems to the ISPs, so I can't establish exactly
the cause of my failed connects. Of course as most providers use this
system to allow their clients to connect to the Internet this is not so
easily solved by switching providers.

I'm at a loss as to the problems I'm having, but assume that linux-ppp is
the list to ask.

Thanks for any pointers.
