There are many potential problems with this sort of setup. My first
check would be that *all* configs refer to the /dev/ttySx (where x is
the appropriate digit) device. Do not use /dev/modem or /dev/cuax (x
again as above) *at all* in configs for ppp, mgetty, or minicom.
