It would be useful to send the options files as well as the command used
to bring up the line, some info about the system.
Anyway, I suspect that your problem might be related to the fact that the
link from /dev/modem doesn't point to the ttyS1 or there is something
wrong about setting this in your options file. The pppd try to start the
link on another tty...
