I'm not sure whether you're saying you couldn't find the PPP-FAQ or that
you couldn't find a solution to your problem in it. I'll assume the
latter. There are certainly other things you can read, especially the
PPP-HOWTO, the man pages for pppd and chat, and the README.linux file
that comes with the pppd distribution. If you want to go deeper, read
RFCs 1661, 1334, 1332, and maybe even 1662.
You need to generate a full log (by editing /etc/syslog.conf so that
daemon.debug is directed somewhere, *not* by using a large value for
kdebug). That way you'll see the actual LCP messages and get a better
handle on where things are going awry. Also, you could post that and get
some help.
