We have a 128Kbps ISDN link with the telecom provider.
Using this we dial the ISP over the 2 separate DTE's to get 64Kbps each.
(This is because the ISP dont provide 128Kbps accounts)
The ISP/teleco charge based on the usage, for this.

Our ISP also provides a 'dedicated ISDN dialup' connectivity, which means
that the connectivity is assured over a port/tel. no. at their end and the
tariff is based on a flat annual rate.

Also, we are approaching the teleco to see whether they can give a
'ISDN hotline' between our end and the ISP. They say it is possible.

We have two options

a) Take the 64Kbps dedicated ISP a/c, but use dialup for this (as welll
as the ordinary 64Kbps dialup a/c on the 2nd DTE) as done now and use
'diald' for dial-on-demand
b) Take the 'hotline' also so that full-time connectivity is there,
although the teleco says their charges will remain the same.

The manual of ZyXEL TA128U, which we now use for the ISDN connectivity,
says using some AT commands we can have the 1st B channel automatically
connect to the 'leased line/hotline' and the second one can be used for
normal dialup.

My query is, whether the same 128Kbps teleco link used for these 2
purposes (viz. 64Kbps hotline with the ISP as well as 64Kbps dialup with
the ISP), or do we have to take another 64Kbps link exclusively for the
hotline? In the latter case, what is the relevance of the co-existance of
the leased/dialup usage mentioned in the manual?

Another question, when more than one channels is used parallely, will the
teleco meter be charging proportionately. In other words, the dialup on
the second channel or a voice call/fax on the 3rd channel is taken as a
separate one or not?

Hope I have made my point clear and have not confused you much.....:-)

TIA

Oommen.
