I suspect when all's said and done, the correct patch looks an awful
lot like the conventional wisdom, "reverse the inequality in line
ppp.c line 3079."  No novelty there.

Though from other sources of information, the '2,1,86' found in that
line might be replaced with some other version, just to be entirely
correct.

Not that the precise version matters much anyway; I think there are
not too many people compiling mid-2.1.xx Linux kernels any more.

I may have been the original source of the incorrect patch.
I posted a patch on June 6, 1988 reflecting the mistaken assumption
that the ppp maintainers >>couldn't<< have been so silly as to
put an inequality in the wrong direction.  Very bad assumption.
