I can boot my machine into either pppd 2.2.0 / linux 2.0.35 or pppd 2.3.5 / linux 2.2.3. If I boot into 2.0.35, everything works great, as it has for probably over a year. But if I boot into the 2.2 environment, pppd refuses to work. I built ppp support into the 2.2 kernel and built the 2.3.5 ppp executables after booting into 2.2. I did not use modules under 2.2, but did under 2.0.35. I've had enough trouble with 2.2 without messing with modules just yet. Anyway, someone recommended for me to verify the modem by trying: /usr/sbin/chat '' AT OK '' < /dev/ttyS1 > /dev/ttyS1 I did and that works fine no matter which kernel I boot. I get $? set to 0. Next, he suggested to try /usr/sbin/pppd debug. OK, if I do that under 2.0.35, I get the ppp garbage lines on the screen, and some diagnostics in the ppp-log in /var/log. Great. But if I do that under 2.2, nothing happens. No output on the screen or in the log! It just sits there and never does anything. So what does anyone suggest? No matter which kernel I boot into, I check all the relevant versions, etc. each time. I know I'm not testing pppd 2.2.0 under 2.2 or whatever. - To unsubscribe from this list: send the line "unsubscribe linux-ppp" in the body of a message to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
