If your end sends the AUTHENTICATION FAILED message to your ISP
then pppd seems to have been launched with the parameter "auth".
Closely revise your scripts and remove that parameter, as it means that
the peer must authenticate itself.
If you can't find that entry, provide the additional parameter "noauth"
on the command line thus overriding any "auth" option in
/etc/ppp/options.
