You most likely need to activate CBCP (which is not in pppd by default,
there is a README.cbcp in the sources). What is the server running?

I have a patch that I know is necessary to get cbcp working in pppd 2.3.5
for certain non-NT servers (such as our cisco thingy ...).

For 2.3.6 that patch is no longer necessary/works (but I think I had
problems compiling cbcp.c instead).

I strongly recommend Jan Kratochvil's <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> CBCP "add-on" to
pppd. Just go to:
        http://atrey.karlin.mff.cuni.cz/~short/sw/#cbng

get the ppp-2.3.6 diff and possibly the ppp-2.3.6.tgz (cbng.tar.gz
includes a CBCP server). Then give him the feedback you think he deserves
(he's asking for it :)
