Hello,

This list has been so helpful in allowing me to configure PPP properly
for the ISP I own I thought I would throw out there another problem I am

having. I am using RH 5.2 with pppd version 2.3.5 straight out of the
box. I am very familiar with RH 4.2 and have been running this version
for quite a while but can not seem to fix the problem at hand with 4.2.
That being that utmp/wtmp is not showing the dial-up user on a "who" or
"w". Anyone else having this problem and know the fix. In my
login.config I am using:
/AutoPPP/ - - /usr/sbin/pppd auth -chap +pap login
this results in no entry for a dialup login. If I use this:
/AutoPPP/ - a_ppp /usr/sbin/pppd auth -chap +pap login
I get a dial in user by the name of "a_ppp" with who or w command and
the other standard output that looks normal. I do get proper entries for

a tty login and a root login using "who" and "w". So my only problem is
getting the name of the user to display properly. Am I on the right
track by adjusting the variables for login.config. I had someone suggest

recompiling ppp via ftp of the source from RH. I did try the 2.3.7
version but I had the same result. Any help here would be appreciated.

Thank you in Advance,
