I'm having a problem connecting to a British Telecom ISP. The issue seems to be centered around authentication completing, but ppp not starting. When checking the logs, I see that ipcp is timing out right at the start, and pppd is complaining about the connection not being 8 bit clean. When trying a manual login, sometimes there is a prompt requiring me to type in 'ppp', but sometimes not. It is not predictable and looks like a hunt group with at least 3 types of modem servers. Is there any way to use a variable in the expect field of chat? If anyone else has had this same issue, can you tell me how you got around it.
