Okay.  You have sent your mgetty log.  It appears you have started pppd.
Now you need to send your pppd log.  You said something about negotiation
failing - didn't you get that out of the pppd log?

Okay.  I would not presume to disagree.  By the way, your log indicates
that mgetty is starting pppd, which is all it needs to do.  Have you
verified that pppd is not starting?

Thanks for the advice.  Obviously, you know best, and is entirely your
affair.

Since you are authenticating with PAP you can run an ip-up script which
looks at the peername environment variable and writes its own log.  Or you
could look more carefully at the comments in mgetty's login.config, and
note the function of the third field there.  Or you can chuck AutoPPP and
set up user accounts for which pppd is the shell.  But I thought you said
that the link wasn't working, or was falling over, and you have now
changed the subject to incidental matters.
