Yes, it can be done.

Use the 
        nodefaultroute
option in your 
        /etc/ppp/options
file.
This will disable the defaultroute option.

At the other end, your customer shuld use the 
        defaultroute 
option, of course....

Also, it will be best if you will use pppd 2.3.7+
