hi.... i did initiate the ppp at the servers' end, and i cud see garbage aswell,
but the problem persists :((
please help

Not directly pertinent to the problem, but you should consider using the
ttyS1 device instead of cua1. Use of the cua devices is deprecated.
This is a guess, but from this and your earlier post, it appears that you
have not initiated the PPP protocol at your ISP. Before you quit minicom
and start pppd, you should see a series of "garbage" characters from the
ISP indicating the PPP negotiation sequence. Check with your ISP on how
to initiate PPP.
Once you get the connection working, you can automate it by using a chat
script instead of minicom.
