hello Mitch,
Sorry to burst into your mailbox uninvited, but i got one of your posts
("First cut at ppp-over-atm" / To:
<[EMAIL PROTECTED]>;<[EMAIL PROTECTED]>) forwarded.
I have (sortofa) PPP over ATM solution running. It is not very clean, but it
works. It is just a master/slave pseudotty pair with on one end a
decapsulator/forwarder and the other the pppd.
The data is just pumped into the atmsocket by the forwarder. To my own
surprise, the performance is rather good. (We can stream video over it...)
It is part of something I developped here for our own testing purposes. (I
develop software for the test department for the Alcatel xDSL modem ;-). I
can't give you the complete tool, but I could fix something up that you can
use as a testool for a serious implementation.
I know this design isn't a very performant one, but I designed it this way
because it allows us to use any ppp implementation without modification. I had
more reasons, but they are tool specific. (The complete tool handles a lot
more protocols and interface types.)
If you want, I will help with a serious implementation. I know PPP, I know a
bit of your ATM implentation and I can do kernel development. I also know the
code of the pppd daemon and module (version 2.3.5, yes, the messy one ;-).
Let me know.
Hope this helps,
J.
