Peter,

> Have anybody got tesame problem ?
I seem to have a similar problem to yours, except my
setup isn't as complex.

I have 3 machines running on a lan.
One is running Linux (2.2.10 kernel) which is set-up
with ip-masquerading, ppp (2.3.9), and a modem to
connect to my ISP and act as a gateway for my 2 other
machines.

The other two machines are windows boxes (one is running
98, and the other NT 4) which I use for web-browsing,
ftp, telnet, etc.

After pppd successfully connects to my ISP, everything
works fine, but then after a non predictable amount of
time (just like you) I cant initiate any type of ip
connection to the internet (for web-browsing or whatever)
from the windows boxes and the linux machine.

The only way I can work around this atm, is to reconnect
to my ISP (until it occurs again, when I will need to
reconnect again).

It seems (I'm not sure at what point in the system) that
the packets coming from remote machines on the internet
(after one of my local machines sends a packet trying to
initiate an ip connection) don't get forwarded to the right
place (e.g. to the windows machines).

There are quite a few different places where this problem
could occur:
1. The windows machine's themselves (maybe there are
problems in the tcp/ip stack, or it operates in a non
standard way) - maybe I should be running linux on
   everything :)
2. The linux ip-firewalling (or the masquerading part)
   system
3. The linux PPP system

I haven't spent much time yet on discovering where the
problem is occurring, besides looking at the output of
tcpdump and /var/log/messages, which hasn't helped me in
finding the problem.

Does anyone have any suggestions on where to start
looking for the problem?

Or, is anyone else experiencing a similar problem?

Thanking you in advance,
