Hi.. Me again..
First thanks again for helping me get that stubborn PPP working (sort of)
on RedHat about a month ago (especially to Clifford!)...
However, it's still problems, though different ones, I'm discovering, now
that I'm actually trying to get some use out of it.
This latest problem might be really obscure, and it could end up being bugs on the
other end (a 3Com RAS 1500 box),
so this could be a bigger problem than is worth messing with.. Fair warning :-)
Anyway....
My slackware has been dialed into this 8-modem 3com RAS1500 for about a year, with no
problem. However,
When the redhat 6.0 system (ppp 2.3.4) dials in (the one you all helped me with
earlier), it not only disconnects,
but crashes the RAS box as well and knocks off my reliable box as well (the RAS box
reboots)!
This occurs between 1 and 10 minutes after it connects, and until then, everything
seems fine.
I realize not too many of you are familiar with the RAS1500, but the log information
below might give someone a
clue.
I think what I'm after is to have PPP not attempt to use IPX, as there is some
indication that there is some IPX
negotiation going on. But even after reading for hours everything about
PPP I have gotten my hands on, I'm no closer to the answer :-(
On the RedHat (broken system) I have the -vj option set (turn off VanJacobsen), and I
have the 3 aliase lines for the compression types in conf.modules.
I see in the RAS logs (via syslog to yet another linux box) that there's something
about IPX going on - does
anyone know how to disable that if it's the problem? - this log information is the
last set of debug logs here.
I hope noone minds me including all this detail - It's just that I've spent hours and
hours trying to find the
answer, and it seems pretty obscure...
If anyone wants more detailed debugging information, I'll send it direct.
