I've attached both files from /var/log so you can see what I am getting after I execute my ppp-on script.

Running Redhat 6.1/Intel (Kernel 2.2.12-20)
ppp-2.3.10-3

Compiled PPP into the kernel initially and received the same error, therefore I read through the documentation again and decided to load PPP as a module instead to see if I can get around this error.

Make Menuconfig
Loaded PPP as a MODULE
Saved settings
ran the following after saving kernel changes
make dep
make clean
make bzImage
make modules
make modules_install
depmod -a
copied /usr/src/linux/2.2.12/arch/i386/boot/bzImage to /boot/vmlinuz-2.2.12
ran /sbin/lilo
rebooted with new kernel

after reboot, cd /etc/ppp/scripts and ran ./ppp-on
Modem lights will indicate activity but eventually die. Did a pico on /var/log/messages and it says

/var/log/messages

Never had this problem in Redhat 6.0, I can't get this working at all. Need input.
I also noticed /dev/ppp wasn't created, so I issued the command according to the doc on ppp-2.3.10 : mknod /dev/ppp c 108 0

I have also put aliases in my /etc/conf.modules
alias tty-ldisc-3 ppp_async
alias char-major-108 ppp_generic

What am I missing??
