Hello,

I don't know whether this issue has already been addressed here (I tried
checking the list's archives at www.linuxhq.com only to find there are
NONE there anymore ...), but this is driving me nuts, so ...

NOTE: Additional question: is there any good (preferrably searchable, but
if not that's fine too) linux-ppp archive out there?? The only one
I knew (www.linuxhq.com) seems not to be there anymore ...

I'm having a pretty weird problem with PPP 2.3.11. Sometimes (yes, it's
totally random, but pretty frequent -- around 2+ out of 5 tries) when I
try to connect to another system, the modem dials, connects, but the pppd
stops at:

Jan 5 16:08:32 thepack chat[7741]: CONNECT
Jan 5 16:08:32 thepack chat[7741]: -- got it
Jan 5 16:08:32 thepack chat[7741]: send (^M)
Jan 5 16:08:32 thepack pppd[7739]: Serial connection established.

It doesn't do anything else from that point on (no LCP negotiation,
nothing), it just hangs there. After what seems to be a timeout, I get:

Jan 5 16:09:33 thepack pppd[7739]: Hangup (SIGHUP)
Jan 5 16:09:33 thepack pppd[7739]: ioctl(TIOCSETD): Interrupted system
call(4)
Jan 5 16:09:34 thepack pppd[7739]: Exit.

When it works correctly, I get:

Jan 5 16:05:48 thepack chat[7709]: CONNECT
Jan 5 16:05:48 thepack chat[7709]: -- got it
Jan 5 16:05:48 thepack chat[7709]: send (^M)
Jan 5 16:05:48 thepack pppd[7707]: Serial connection established.
Jan 5 16:05:48 thepack pppd[7707]: Using interface ppp0
Jan  5 16:05:48 thepack pppd[7707]: Connect: ppp0 <--> /dev/ttyC1
Jan 5 16:05:52 thepack pppd[7707]: Remote message: Login Succeeded
Jan 5 16:05:52 thepack pppd[7707]: local IP address AAA.BBB.CCC.DDD
Jan 5 16:05:52 thepack pppd[7707]: remote IP address EEE.FFF.GGG.HHH

, and the connection is functional in this case. Please keep in mind that
these two situations happen in the same serial port, calling to the same
remote serial port using the same physical media (modem, cables, etc.).

What is this?? Can anybody help me??

Thanks in advance for your help.

Regards,
Ivan
