I'm trying to get PPP Dial-up in command mode working on a Linux-Mandrake v6.1
installation as a Client (mostly) workstation using an external 56k modem.
Kernel is 2.2.13-7mdk, PPPD is v2.3.8
The pppconnect script built by linuxconf works fine but the following
error/condition occurs:
pppconnect (typed in then ENTER key pressed)
--- Start of messages ---
Serial connection established.
Using interface ppp0
Connect: ppp0<-->/dev/ttyS1
LCP: timeout sending Config-Requests
Connection terminated.
Receive Serial link is not 8-bit clean:
Problem: all had bit 7 set to 0
--- end of messages ---
I can switch to KDE and use kppp dialer (manually start) and everything works
perfect. I can even switch back to a tty console and run lynx or ping or
whatever and everything works great, but I NEED to be able to do this as a tty
user and/or from Bash Scripts for automated mail runs, etc. Any ideas?
I have read the entire ppp-HOWTO (start to finish) and perused countless Scripts
for ppp this and ppp that from various sources, as well as the info pppd stuff,
and I sure didn't see anything about 7/8 bits.
Be well,
Ben aka cMech http://Positron.org/cmech/
