I just installed 5634BTS 56k V.90 modems in my linux dialup client and
server machines. If I dial up my standard ISP with the client, I get a
28800bps connection, and ftp shows a transfer rate of 2.7k - 3k. If I run
an ftp session through dialup to my linux server, I still get 28800bps,
but ftp reports 1.4k/s and ifconfig on the client shows about a 5% error
rate.

How can I tweak ppp on my linux dialup server to improve performance ? Or
is this more of a modem issue ?

Config:

K6-233 cpu

Client:
linux 2.2.12 kernel
pppd V 2.3.7
same modem
64M SDRAM
Pentium 233MMX
