There's a small ISP over here that also serves dialup Internet using NT
RAS. I haven't had any problems with it though.

You should maybe speak to your ISP and tell them to enable clear-text
authentication or something like that. Requiring MS CHAP is pretty silly,
unless security is very important. Same goes for the compression protocols.
Have you tried turning off compression?
