Here's my configuration. I've got a client RH 6.1 Linux box with DIGI Datafire RAS card connected via a T1 to a 3Com Total Control Shelf acting as a NAS with another RH 6.1 Linux box as a server on the back side. I establish the ppp connections from the client and can communicate with the server. I've set up my .rhosts on the server to allow access from the client. With this setup, I can rcp files to the server, and even rlogin without being challenged for a password. However all attempts at rsh'ing a command result in a hang. Nothing appears in /var/log/messages on either system. I can do all three (rcp, rlogin, & rsh) between these two systems using the LAN that happens to connect them, so the basic functionality is there. Only rsh over the ppp link fails. I've experimented with my .rhosts, /etc/hosts, /etc/hosts.equiv, /etc/hosts.allow, & /etc/hosts.deny to no avail. (Now that I think of it, problems with any of these would show up on the LAN connection as well.) What am I overlooking?
