After watching the developments of the following interfaces for ATM and
DSL NIC
coming into fruitations:

    1483 Classic IP
    2864 Bridge (aka 1483 Bridge)
    PPPoATM
    PPPoE

I am wondering if the interfaces' setup can be made consistent across
the
encpasulation types. So far we've contended with two groups of network
interfaces; atm0 and ppp0.

There is a bit overlap with PPPoE as it should go atm0 and ppp0. This
will
address the external DSL/Cable Modem router using PPPoE and the internal
DSL
adapter cards as well.

Encapsulation Summary Recap
Type Network Itf ATM Itf Drivers Daemon SetupUtil
1483 CIP atm0 eni0 atm-0.77 atmarpd atmarp
1483 Bridge atm0? eni0 br2864 br2864ctl -
PPPoE ppp0 n/a pppoe pppd pppoe.o
(plugin)
PPPoA ppp0 n/a pppoa pppd pppoatm.o
(plugin)

Only shortcoming I see so far is that PPPoE cannot attach to "atm0" Unix
network
interface. This support may be critical for the DSL NIC users and
ATM broadband
industry.

Are we supporting BOTH:

1. PPPoE attaching to atm0 Unix network interface and
2. PPPoE kernel hooking to the atm interface?
