One thing that does appear different between ppp-2.4.0b2 and pppd 2.3.11 is that the
2.3.11 ppp daemon would make the /dev/ppp node if it didn't exist (sys-linux.c). The
/dev/ppp node already existed on my test system; but, you may have to create this
manually to test the patch.

PPPoATM patch for linux-2.4.0-test2, and an accompnying patch for pppd
