Hello everyone, thanks for all the support with my attempts to employ
Software Raid on Linux. So many of you have replied and I'm so grateful.

I have my server configured with a raid 1 /boot and raid 5 /(root) and have
been able to boot off of the first drive of the raid 1. When /dev/sda is
taken off-line the system will not boot. All I get is "LI" which I looked up
in the lilo documentation and found it means the first stage boot loader was
able to start but the second did not. The drives are identical so I think I
can rule out geometry mismatch.

I have RedHat 7.0 installed and I compiled in the raid 0/1/3/4/5
personalities and my Adaptec controller module. Every thing else seems to
be fine. I just want to make sure that if /dev/sda fails then I can still
boot the machine without a floppy.

Is there a special patch that I'm missing? or a special switch for lilo
that I didn't use? How do you install the boot on the second drive anyway,
and at which point do you install it. I think if you install it once the
raid is in place it should work for both drives correct?

Thanks in advance

Robert Chapman
