HELP!!!!!!!!!!!

So far Ive built the raid1 partition 4 times, incl 2 re-installs from
scratch of the OS.

its lost the superblock once from which I couldnt recover so I started
again
from scratch........

I dump test files on it with touch and nano, reboot several times to
test
the stop and start scripts for the raid (wont autodetect for some
reason)
Twice its seems to have lost sync and re-synced itself but that takes 90
odd
minutes)

on the three occasions,

It usually starts by loosing data about the 1 gig mark on restore off a
dlt
( I made multiple backups and have tried different tapes for the
restore),
the system has appeared to try and automatically re-sync and succeeds
before
i have put any data on it except for a coupl of test files.

I get some data onto the partition (i cd to it to check files are being
written with ls -al, run df -h etc all seems well) and then sometime
(minutes) later i get seek errors on hda and all the files/data
disappears
off the raid1 partition.

I umount the partition, raidstop (a script i wrote) when i init to 1
then
raidstart /dev/md0 manually so I can fsck it which reports no errors and

everything is hunky dorry........except when i reboot no data is there
its
totally disappeared!

Ive varied the position and size of the partition on hda and hdd, yet it

appears to be a constant loosing of the "contents " of the raid1
partition.
I assume from this it isnt a hw fault. The machine is 18 months old and
has
run faultlessly during that time.........acting as my samba/dhcp
server.......

Ive run this as non-raid on just hda2 and then hdd1 and copied data on
and
off to dlt no problems, fsck shows no problems.....im scratching my head

here..........The old raidtools was fine but this new raidtools2 seems
very
problematic.

Ive come down to a kernel or raid tool sw problem.........

System is a cerelon433a 128 meg of ram 2 x 15 gig hd's (one on each eide

channel). Scsi controller is a adaptec aha1542cp with an external
tk88/dlt4000 tape drive. The hd's are smart capable and status says is
OK.
Ive had no fsck problems or other reports of problems in 18months it was
on
line it was install and forget, now im trying to raid1 it..........ug!

Any ideas on why this is happening please?

way forward?

thanks
