Here's what the Adaptec RAID folks have had to say about the IBM disks in
question:

>From personal experience, I wasn't able to install FreeBSD on a DDYS drive
with S80D firmware. (The disk was connected to an onboard 7899 on a
SuperMicro 370DE6.) With S93E firmware, I've had pretty good luck
installing and running FreeBSD. If you're running an Adaptec ASR-type
RAID controller, you really need S96H.
