The whole boot-on-raid howto thing will be re-done (or just *done*) in a not too
distant future.
Assuming you mounted the new raid in /mnt/raid:
cd /
umask 0
tar cf - dev etc bin usr ... | tar xpvCf mnt/raid -
Replace ... with the directories I forgot :)
The reason I use tar is, that it copies the dev filesystem correctly
(eg. not trying to copy the entire /dev/zero, it just copies the device file)
Perhaps cp -pr or something can accomplish the same. I don't know. tar works
for me.

A note on the HOWTO: I was hoping to apply some major updates earlier this week,
and get some benchmarks included as well. Last friday I received two new disks,
similar to the two I allready got, and I was hoping to do some excessive benchmarking
and toying with raid levels etc. Unfortunately, one of my old disks died about
an hour after I made my system boot on RAID-5. Despite the death of a disk, I
guess that was a one-in-a-fantazillion RAID experience :)
My system runs happily with three disks in degraded RAID mode, and I'm waiting for
the repaired disk to arrive. When that happens, the RAID howto will be updated.
Thanks by the way, for the many good suggestions and corrections I keep receiving
thru this list. Keep'em coming ! :)
Cheers,
