Haven't tried it myself, but I've had two different reports that swap on RAID-1 works, from people who didn't realise that it _shouldn't_ work. I encouraged them to post their experiences to the list, but I don't think either of them did. Could it be that swap works on RAID-1, but not on others? This would be quite useful, since, as has been pointed out, swap on RAID-0 is pointless, but swap on RAID-1 might provide some insulation against the kernel being taking down by the failure of a disk containing a swap partition.
