Have you patched the kernel? A patch is needed for raidtools. Check the
FAQ and HOWTO? (Is it explained there?)

Patch is available under
ftp://ftp.iso.kernel.org/pub/linux/daemons/raid/ALPHA/raid0145...
or slightly different...
