Sounds like both these guys went with the RAID options included in the kernel source,
rather than patching with the latest raid patch. They are both using v2.2.5, and as
this doesn't patch cleanly with the current raid patch, one would have expected them
to mention the patch failing if they had tried to apply it. If the solution were to
do a "mkraid --really-force", they would have received a message advising this when
they tried to do "mkraid -f". But, as that message says, we shouldn't be mentioning
this solution on any mailing lists.
The new raidtools won't work with the legacy raid code left in the kernel source. The
solution is to patch the kernel source with the latest raid patch from the same
directory as they obtained the raidtools from.
The fact that the linux source includes legacy raid code which is incompatible with
the latest raidtools seems to cause a lot of misunderstandings. Can't the legacy
stuff be taken out and turned into a patch for those who like the older tools?
