the RAID code relies on the actual IO errors not error messages - but you
do not get an IO error even on SCSI until the controller _notices_ that
the disk has been disconnected. This typically happens when the first IO
command after the disconnect is issued to the drive. Hot-plug-safe
controllers of course issue messages to the OS immediately, but i suppose
the aformentioned test wasnt done on such a system.
