You are of course entirely correct, however I will impliment with 2.2.7
(Have done) unless an update is imminent in which case I will wait and
test with 2.2.10 or whatever.... I can delay the installation/testing... 

Also, I have a machine at home with 2.2.7 which I have seen crash outright
several times and I want to try updating the kernel but I cant do that
without loosing my mirrors at the moment.
