As I had been told a few days ago by this list (and indeed found
it to be true), the 19990824 kernel patch will successfully against
a vanilla 2.2.12 (minus one .rej, which was already incorporated in
to the 2.2.12 kernel) and work like a charm.
My RAID-1 box has been running without problems since I upgraded
to 2.2.12, as has a client's machine I have running a 4-drive
RAID-5.
