I use an older version of their "Personal Edition" (bundled with Official
Red Hat 5.1) with an Exabyte EXB-8700 8mm drive, and have never had a
problem.  BRU can recover data from compressed archives, unlike tar.  For
network backups, you need the full version.

It also has a utility to build recovery boot floppies for disaster
recovery.
