I have a sorta newbie type question, so be gentle :-)
I just bought a nice VA Research linux box. It has a nice hardware RAID
card (well, nice is relative, its a Mylex DAC960). In a RAID5
configuration.
Anyways, I am wanting to install Sybase ASE (database server) on it. It
suggests using raw partitions. Can I just partition up the big drive that
the Mylex card represents to the system into say a couple 2GB slices, and
then leave the rest for a big filesystem?
i.e.:
I have a 15GB RAID5 array (/dev/rd/c0d1) that currently has /home on it.
Can I nuke that, partition it into (2) 2GB slices and a 13GB slice for a
filesystem. Allowing Sybase to access the the smaller slices in raw form.
???
Thanks, and excuse me for being a dumbass :-)
